Confirmed of Condition
Last week, I went to see a Gynaecologist to double confirm my body condition. Frankly , I am a super kan cheong ( impatient) person. The moment I was suspected of this condition, I took out my my phone and Google the condition.
Apparently my super Gynaecologist has a long queue , therefore i decided to queue at a gynaecologist near my place.
Doctor mention that it is Diastasis , my current condition is rather bad. That is due to the fact that I had 3 c section and the muscles above the cut are numb and dead. Secondly , I had week muscles to begin with . Thirdly, which is the worst habit, I do not like to use my core muscles , therefore my core muscles are weak and it tough to connect.
How do I actually feel?
Frankly, I dun feel much different, its just that for the pass 3 years ( now my 3rd child is now 4 years old) my little tummy didn't get smaller and in fact I felt that it got bigger and my yuck belly button protrude out and hole seems to get bigger.
I also realise that my ribcage seems to be bigger and with of my bra seem so tight that I have to keep buy bras or extension. That is because I am unable to breathe and felt terrible all the time. Unfortunately, breast size didn't grow only ribcage did..urgh....
I started to walk without using my core muscles and started to have back pain and tough strain on my back. This leads to many more other problems which I will address one by one.
For some ladies, their condition improved after using girdles , but for me it is impossible. That is because I dun use my core muscles and they seems to be so disconnected. If I were to use the girdles, it will worsen and as my muscles will be lazy thus it will be harder to work them.
What are the Options / Healing for Diastasis?
A diastasis can be closed on
anyone at any time. It does not matter when you had your baby or even if you have had a baby at all! Closing a diastasis is all about healing the connective tissue. Everyone’s connective tissue will heal at a different rate. It depends on the “condition” of your connective tissue. The weaker your connective tissue the longer it will take. Also, the connective tissue on people who have stretch marks will take longer to heal. :(
Healing the connective tissue is all about putting it in a better (narrow) position, bringing blood flow to it and protecting it when doing any type of activities so it is not being stretched nor does it have any intra-abdominal force or pressure on it.
Surgery should be your very last resort! If you decide on surgery, your abdominal must be strengthened beforehand to maintain the integrity of the sutures. The surgery to repair this requires a hipbone to hipbone incision. The recovery from this surgery is very difficult.
If mesh is recommended for this surgery, be very careful. As there are many brands and types of mesh. Most of the meshes are absorb able which means it will co-mingle with your connective tissue. Many people are allergic to the mesh. There is no way to test yourself before the surgery to see if you are. If after the surgery you find out you are allergic, there is no way to remove it after it has co-mingled with your connective tissue. Thus, your body will be continuously trying to reject it and this will cause pain. A pain that there is no solution for except medication!
** I have added a picture from the net which teaches us how to do the test. As for the fix.. doesn't seem to good enough for me.. I need something more intense.
Exercise to avoid with Diastasis condition
- Any exercise that will cause your abdominal wall to bulge out upon exertion, sit ups are one of them.
- Certain yoga postures that require back bends , stretching of abs and actions with out the adequate abdominal support.
- For Pilate do avoid actions that required crunches.
Till the next post....it's mommy's hat again... Shalom
